Imetlaa
The Imetlaâ band from Utrecht is a striking formation of eight young Moroccan man. Most members come from the Rif. They bring infectious Amazigh (Berber) listeningmusic, but also swinging crossovers with latin, rock and dance. The powerful drive of the Moroccan percussioninstruments adjun and darbouka is the main theme in the music that deals with personal and social issues such as homesickness, alienation, hope, unattainable love, identity and status of women.
The passion of Imetlaâ to sing in the Amazigh language Tarafit arose because although the Moroccan population in the Netherlands for the most part is Amazigh, they felt as if they were not represented at musical, intellectual and cultural level.
