Maria Fernandez Alvarez

Vocalist Maria Fernandez Alvarez & pianist Norman Peplow cherish fascination for all passionate music. Their narrative songs are a tribute to the music of the South American and Spanish traditions in particular.

The Argentine (Neo) Tango, Cuban Complejos and the lesser known South American Folk are the roots of their music, with strong influences from Brazil and Spain.

This rare combination of rhythm, colors, languages and especially stories is enriched by a blend with jazz. The style that offers endless opportunities for improvisation and interaction.

In recent years, the duo was regularly invited to perform at Jazz- and Tango Festivals and venues in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Turkey, Romania and Spain. Recently they won the first prize at the 'Holland Casino Artez Jazz Competition' (May 2008), the second prize at the International Tango Music Competition 'Concurso del Ocho' (April 2009) and the first prize at the prestigious 'Prix du Port' music contest for excellent talent (April 2009).
