Phonix

Once they were called the Normans and later the Vikings. They were the terror of Europe. Now we embrace the Danes as our good neighbors. With new and fresh folk from Denmark, Phønix brings gems from the treasury of the Scandinavian folk music with an impressive collection of instruments and creative arrangements. Many concertvisitors will be overwhelmed by slight surprise by how close to home the music feels but is yet completely unknown in the Netherlands.

The quality of their arrangements, their choice of tunes, their stage performance: it's all top and professional. The performance captivates from beginning to end. The public greatly enjoys the creative discoveries with wich Phønix dresses old and new folkmusic: with flutes, clarinets, bass clarinet, accordion, vocals and a battery of percussion instruments. With a unique instrumentation, new original songs, lyrics from the great Scandinavian folk tradition with surprising and original arrangements, provides Phønix a widely appreciated contribution to the rejuvenation and development of the Danish folk(dance)music. Also admirers of balfolk will enjoy themselves.

The four inspired musicians have surprised countless folk concerts, clubs and festivals. Not only in Denmark but throughout Europe, the U.S. and Canada.

Their album 'Pigen & Drengen' yielded two prices: Best Vocalist and Best Instrumentalist in 2002. Their album 'Collage', 2005, was nominated for Folk Artist of the Year and Traditional and Folk Vocalist of the Year. With their latest album 'PhønixFolk', the band won again two awards in 2008 at the Danish Music Awards: Traditional Folk Artist of the Year and Folk Vocalist of the Year 2008.
