Sonnekai

Sonnekai gypsy swing ensemble, led by hotviolist Watty Rosenberg, takes you back to Paris in the roaring 20ties and 30ties with its legendary Quintette du Hot Club de France. These were the early years of European jazz: a unique style, shaped by the dexterous hands of gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and hotviolist Stephane Grapelli. Solo guitarist Faifie Reinhardt enters the footsteps of his grandfather, while the youngest Rosenberg (Fremdo) is a virtuoso on bass. Cousin Daniël Rosenberg brings very tight rhythms on the rhythm-guitar.

Sonnekai ('gold') and the youngest generation Reinhardt and Rosenberg: rising stars in the Django- tradition. Wattie Rosenberg, violin, Faifie Reinhardt, guitar, Fremdo Rosenberg, bass, Daniel Rosenberg, rhythm guitar.

Sonnekai played at the Dutch premiere of the film "Swing" by Tony Gatlif. The famous guitarist Tschavolo Schmidt (main character in the film) was very enthusiastic about this youthful ensemble.

Founder of Sonnekai and violinist Wattie Rosenberg, son of Bakro Rosenberg who (along with his brother Häntsje Rosenberg) founded the famous Romanesj, knows how to use the vibrato effortlessly. He performs regularly as guest violinist with various other ensembles. Recently the Rosenberg Trio. With guitarist Reinhardt Faifie you can hear the influence of Belgian sinto-guitarist Django Reinhardt but Faifie is above all influenced and inspired by his uncle, Lulu Reinhardt, the legendary lead guitarist of Titi Winterstein Quintett. Furthermore, the influence of Stochelo Rosenberg, the famous guitarist of the Rosenberg Trio, is clearly present. This is also heard in the typical vibrato in the guitar playing of Faifie. Fremdo Rosenberg is the bass virtuoso who is also the driving force that causes the accompaniment swings like a train so the typical gypsy-jazz-swing is created. Sonnekai is a group that comes from a clear Sinti tradition with a very contemporary sound. How introverted the Sinti musicians of Sonnekai may appear, in their music they can express their feelings; then their hearts speak. Together they form a rock solid unit.
